hand-tied extension care
The secret to long lasting hair extensions is in the care. Follow these instructions to ensure your investment.
Washing:
Before washing, brush and detangle your hair
Only use professional paraben & sulfate free products
Use moisturizing/hydrating shampoo and conditioner
Avoid products labeled with: Repair, Reconstruct, Keratin, Strengthen, Bonding, or Protein
Gently wash in between wefts and rinse thoroughly to avoid build up
A double wash (at least) should be preformed every time (look for the lather)
Do not use extremely hot water (lukewarm is best)
Invest in a shower head filter. Hard water can cause discoloration
Use a hydrating clarifying shampoo once a month if instructed by stylist
When applying conditioner, take care to avoid attachment site
Allow conditioner to sit 5-10 minutes before rinsing
Olaplex and K18 should not be used on your hair extension hair
Styling:
After wash, gently squeeze out excess water and BLOT dry (NEVER rub)
Apply a leave in conditioner with heat protector on clean hair before brushing, midshaft to ends
Always hold the weft line while brushing gently starting at the bottom-working your way up. Avoid harsh brushing and pulling
Maintain low to medium heat on drying and styling tools
Make sure to thoroughly dry the base(root) of your extensions immediately after washing or working out
Apply a light oil/serum daily to help maintain moisture
Hooded sweatshirts & jackets can cause static and/or tangling
Avoid round brushing until the extensions are at least 90% dry, being careful to avoid brushing directly over the weft line
Essential:
Only use salon quality products
Sleep with your hair up as instructed by stylist using a silk scrunchie. Braiding or low pigtails is a second option but the preferred way is up. Silk bonnets or head scarves may also be used
Invest in a silk or satin pillowcase to help eliminate friction while sleeping
Brush your extensions in the morning and at night and if needed throughout the day
Use a hydrating mask 1-2 times per month
Trim your own and the extension hair regularly to maintain health
Avoid:
Avoid sleeping with wet hair
Avoid extended periods of moisture
Avoid products containing alcohol and ethanol
Avoid brushing directly over your extension weft line
Avoid contact with dry shampoo on extensions
Avoid submerging your hair in chlorine or salt water, doing so can cause discoloration, matting and tangling
Avoid the use of sunscreens containing Avobenzone and Octocrylene. Switch to mineral based SPF
Sunless tanning solutions and tanning beds will cause discoloration
Excessive sunlight can cause discoloration
Never cut wefts at attachment site. Doing so will cause the wefts to come undone, rendering wefts unusable
